消息源自于 Deadline，该名制作人在访问开头便透露为何要等到九月才能知道答案。他说，那是 Chad Stahelski 和 Keanu Reeves 一同前往日本的时候，届时他们将平分几瓶 whiskey，「而若他们能熬过宿醉，并因此想出一个很酷的想法，好让 John Wick 能自然地回归，那么就会有《John Wick 5》。」也就是说，日本之旅或许会是关键。就像是等待一艘船从迷雾中驶出般，只是需要点「刺激」。
