纽约市是全球最繁华的城市之一，坐拥 840 万人口，每天车水马龙、随处可见高楼林立。但你知道吗？最近有份研究报告指出，这座巨型城市正在「下沉」，而原因正是乘载过重的城市建筑物所造成。
消息出自地质学者 Tom Parsons 发表于期刊《Earth’s Future》的论文报告。据他研究，纽约市内总计有 108 万座建筑物，总重高达 1.68 兆磅，这导致整座城市每年平均下沉 2 至 4 毫米，其中又以皇后区、布鲁克林、康尼岛、牙买加湾等地区下沉幅度更快。而除了建筑物外，抽取地下水、冰河消融、土质松软也是导致城市下沉的原因。
随着全球暖化、海平面上升，包含纽约市在内，全球各大沿海城市都面临洪灾隐患。像是印尼近年就因海水倒灌以及人口过剩等原因，选择将首都从雅加达迁至爪哇岛东北方的加里曼丹，预计在 2024 年完成。
